Swimming Lessons Terms & Conditions

Pre-School

Discovery Duckling: 4 months to 24 months

These fun and engaging lessons for babies* and young children are an ideal start for gaining water confidence before progressing to the Duckling stage. The lessons are delivered with a parent/carer & child in the water and run as a termly course for 10-13 weeks.

Monday  |  Tuesday mornings 

*Subject to baby swimming advice being followed – please check with your health visitor.

 

Duckling: 24 months to 4 years

Duckling lessons are delivered with parent/carer & child in the water and are suitable for children old enough to follow instructions and who can move independently. This is the ideal step to increase water confidence and familiarise with essential skills before progressing to the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework Stages. Courses run for 10-13 weeks.

Stages 1-7

Learn to Swim Framework – Stages 1 to 7

The key focus areas of the Learn to Swim Framework are:

  • Developing fundamental movement skills
  • Teaching children to swim using the four strokes of front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly
  • Fun and enjoyment in the water to help children learn

Learn to Swim Framework – Stages 1 to 7

Stage 1: Non-swimmer

Stage 2: Confident non-swimmer

Stage 3: Able to swim 5m unaided on front with face in water and 5m unaided on back

Stage 4: Able to swim 10m unaided on front and back, with emphasis on the correct leg action of all 4 strokes

Stage 5: Able to swim 10m confidently to the expected standard on a recognised stroke of choice

Stage 6: Able to swim all four strokes for 10m to the expected standard, with one stroke of choice for 25m to the expected standard

Stage 7: Advanced and the last stage before joining the Canterbury Kings Swimming Academy

Crash Courses

Swimming Crash Courses

Our intensive swimming crash courses are an ideal way to help your child improve their water confidence and stroke technique.

The 30 minute lessons are suited to children aged 4 years upwards (school year R), from beginners to advanced (Stage 1-6 of our Learn to Swim Framework) and will run for either 2 or 4 days.

Key Lesson Information:

  • Swimmers can access changing rooms approximately 10 minutes before the lesson start time.
  • Use lockers to store all personal belongings, lockers take £1 coin or a locker token (locker tokens can be purchased from Reception).
  • Swimmers with long hair should use a swimming hat or must be tied back.
  • Parents are not required to be in the water for beginner classes, as the instructors are teaching in the pool. Parent / Carer to use spectator area or lounge.
  • Use of mobile phones is prohibited in changing rooms and poolside.

Academy

Swim Academy

The Canterbury Kings Swim Academy runs as a termly course along similar lines to a junior swimming club and is available for swimmers who are ready to start Stage 8 of the Aquatic Skills framework. The main emphasis is on the development skills and effective techniques to include starts, turns, stroke drills and use of the pace clock. We include termly time trials on each stroke and an annual mini gala.

Canterbury Kings Lifeguard

Packed with lifesaving and rescue activities, to give children the skills they need to be confident in the pool, the sea and enjoy water safely. Our sessions include valuable survival, rescue and sports skills…all delivered in an exciting way that will get children involved and motivated. Our programme will inspire and embolden your child, helping them keep themselves, their friends and their family safe in the water through a range of fun activities that lead towards a series of awards.

Adult Courses

Adult Courses

Our adult courses follow the same structure as our School of Swimming and incorporate beginners and improvers training schedules for fitness, coaching tips on stroke technique, diving and turns instruction.

 

Beginners

For nervous adults or those new to swimming.

Tuesday  |  19:10-20:10

Improvers

Suitable for adults who can swim 50m – 100m and would like to improve their water confidence, stroke technique and stamina.

Adult Training

Ideal for adults who wish to participate in lane swimming and develop strokes, skills and drills including starts and turns. Run similar to an informal club.

Wednesday  |  19:00-20:00       Sunday  |  18:00-19:00

Private Lessons

Private Swimming Lessons

These 30 minute lessons are with a qualified instructor and available for adults and children of all abilities. Lessons can be booked through reception at a mutually convenient time between you and the instructor. A maximum of 2 people, of similar ability, may share a 30 minute private lesson.

Full payment is required at time of booking. 24 hours notice is required for cancellations. Please see our Rules and Regulations for full booking and cancellation details.
